Casa Quixote/ El Pescadero Baja Sur, MEX (2019)

Where the desert meets the sea and the place we want to be. Baja has captured our hearts. This existing surf shack in the middle of the heurta w/ an ocean and mountain view was an oasis that needed a bit of staging/updating to increase the short term rental profits. Eventually the home was listed on the market before we could get the tile in or change the Easter egg paint colors but the property sold very quickly thanks to our updates.

Some of the challenges besides being international was limited design resources in the area. It was also a small casita 500 sq ft and we had to work w/ the existing hard surfaces and paint colors. We added as much storage as we could by sourcing a vintage armoire, closet shelving, dresser, and vanity for the bathroom. The mini kitchenette was not user friendly so we expanded w/ full size fridge, prep table, storage, gas cooktop, and breakfast bar. The outdoor patio space was a great place to make a sweet dining area w/ a rooftop lounge for yoga, afternoon siesta, or sunset sipping. Kristen brought many plants w/ transitional and modern style adobe pots to make the patios feel more cozy.

Working w/ the vast outdoor space was key so we also set up a bohemian style tent for an extra bedroom and created a magical herb garden for fresh salsa making to go w/ fish tacos! The concrete walls have a cold feeling so we warmed up the space w/ as many textiles as we could for color, pattern, and texture by sourcing rugs, pillows, linens/bed coverings with a natural feel/look. We also sourced some cool moorish pendant lamps for indoor/ and out. We worked w/ the three existing design elements a cowhide chair, a cow skull and a wooden statue of Don Quixote to capture the ranch style vibe and take it to the next level. (2019) begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
