A Home is a Vibe
An ode to Portland, its architecture, and the places we call home
I called rainy Rose City home for over twenty years, and it took moving away for a little while, in search of sunshine, to realize just how special the architecture of our beloved Portland homes truly is.
From the charming Craftsman bungalows of the east side to the grand Victorians of the west hills, with plenty of classic Foursquares in between, Portland is a city rich with architectural character.
I left a modernist and returned with a newfound love for old homes. Although, I must admit, midcentury modern still steals my heart.
And then there are the gardens.
Portland's gardens drink up the rain and, in return, gift us the sweetest blossoms. Camellias, rhododendrons, and, of course, the queen of all flowers, the rose.
I've always believed that plants carry an energy of their own, and I believe our homes do, too.
Over time, we infuse our spaces with laughter and tears, sunny-day joys and rainy-day moods. Our homes become reflections of the lives unfolding within them.
They hold our memories.
Even the dust particles catching the afternoon light seem to keep a record of what has passed and what has yet to come.
A home is more than walls, windows, and beautiful furnishings. It's where we retreat from the world, reconnect with ourselves, and refill our cups.
Our homes hold us.
Our homes are a vibe.
They're the places we want to be.
As an interior designer, I've had the pleasure of working with hundreds of people over the years, contributing to their design projects and experiencing the beauty and individuality of so many Portland homes.
Each project has reinforced my belief that great design begins with listening. Understanding how people live, what inspires them, and how they want to feel in their space.
Whether honoring the craftsmanship of a century-old home or bringing a fresh perspective to a contemporary interior, my approach is rooted in creativity, thoughtful details, and a genuine passion for service.
Ultimately, I love helping people bring their vision of a dream home to life.
One that looks beautiful, feels authentic, and has a little soul.
Because the hippest homes aren't necessarily the most expensive or perfectly styled.
They're the ones that feel like you.
“A house is made of walls and beams; a home is made of love and dreams.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
